“ Fantastic nights at Ruta Oaxaca. You'll be Dancin from the mariachi and your tastebuds will be dancin from the awesome drinks and ribs! Go here and try everything. I didn't think the octopus was as good as it needed to be but the rest was a smas ”
“ Food and service is always great! One of my favorite places in town, definitely a must ”
“ Loved this place - tacos were a great way to introduce ourselves to the restaurant. They let you mix 3 different kinds from their taco menu if you feel so inclined. My favorite was the carne asada and I also liked the Pescado. The drinks were the super stars- their margaritas were amazing and they have many to choose from. I started with a plain one but was blown away by the berrylicious which was smoky and a lovely surprise. I had a small piece of the churros which did not disappoint. The staff were very sweet and attentive. Loved the wall art and decor. Will definitely be back here again. ”
“ Ruta Oaxaca in Patchogue is not your average Mexican joint--it's a flavor explosion in every bite, and I'm already plotting my return. The owner himself was in attendance the entire night, weaving through the crowd like the host of the ultimate dinner party, making sure everyone was having the time of their lives (and let's face it, eating their weight in churros). The personal touch was just the beginning. Let's talk food. I went on a bit of a culinary journey, starting with the Shrimp Flautas--crispy, golden perfection stuffed with juicy shrimp that made me do a little happy dance in my chair. The Chicken Buñuelos? A genius mashup of savory and sweet, fried just right, and the kind of dish that makes you want to hide the last bite from your tablemates. The Ribs were a melt-in-your-mouth masterpiece, falling off the bone with a smoky sweetness I'm still dreaming about. Oh, and those Mashed Plantains--sweet, creamy, and unexpectedly delightful--are the sidekick every dish deserves. The star of the night was the Shrimp Castaño--a perfectly balanced blend of tender shrimp, creamy sauce, and just enough heat to keep things interesting. And dessert? Tres Leches that was so good it should be illegal, followed by churros that were crunchy, sugary bliss. (Pro tip: order extra; you won't want to share.) The drinks? Let's just say their Happy Hour from 12-7 has my name written all over it. The tequila selection is unmatched--I could practically hear mariachi music every time a bottle was mentioned. The cocktails were smooth, flavorful, and dangerous in the best way possible. The ambiance sealed the deal. The live band that night brought the perfect energy--upbeat but not overpowering, like a soundtrack to your favorite meal. Between the music, the vibrant decor, and the warm, buzzing atmosphere, Ruta Oaxaca knows how to set the stage for an unforgettable evening. In short, this place is a gem. Whether you're here for the food, the drinks, or just to soak up the good vibes, Ruta Oaxaca delivers. I'll be back for that Happy Hour and another round of ribs--don't be surprised if I beat you there! ”
“ Ruta Oaxaca feels like upscale Mexican food made unpretentiously. The tacos are consistently delicious, and the selection of tequila and mezcal make the cocktails something to look forward to at each visit. At RO, you can enjoy a festive, colorful atmosphere with lively decor and great music without sparing the thoughtful food and welcoming service. There are not many places that I have had mole on Long Island, and it is evident that they are taking their time with the mole they're serving at Ruta. Always a pleasure to go. ”
“ *The best Mexican food I ate in 2024* Friday after work, I had to drop off my wife's car to be repaired. I said let's go to Patchogue for dinner? We're walking towards the typical rotation of restaurants we frequent and passed Ruta Oaxaca Mexican Cuisine. We take a peek inside and we can be seated with no reservation needed. It's a beautiful fall night and we're shown to a table on the back deck. We are given menus and I see the "VIP Old Fashioned". Now I'm an Old Fashioned guy, to see a stepped up Old Fashioned?? Be still my heart.. This drink is made with Patron Extra Anejo and served in a smoker. Fantastic cocktail and highly recommended. The best Mole I ever had was at a Mexican restaurant on the lower east side. The restaurant closed but I always kept it to myself whenever I tried mole from other restaurants. What was served to me last night was the best mole I ever had. The owner came to our table and I told him this mole is incredible. He said the New York Times agrees with me. Their mole dish was written in the Times about their Astoria restaurant. He said the Ruta Oaxaca food is more street food but I'm sensing there is an elegance to each dish. Perfect point would be the Grilled Octopus. The sweet corn purée was incredible and was that passion fruit on the side? The octopus had the perfect char, the entire dish with all the components made this dish IMHO award winning. Seafood enchiladas topped with fresh calamari? This was their nightly special, I loved every bite My wife's taco trio? Simple with the best ingredients We finished our meal and I'm feeling satisfied. We're given dessert menus, the Tres Leche cake is called me. Wow. It's like they had grandma in the kitchen baking. Sooo good! The coffee flan? Another outstanding dish. I've been to the other Mexican restaurants on Main Street. Ruta Oaxaca Mexican Cuisine surpasses every Mexican restaurant on Long Island! From the well crafted cocktails to the amazing and authentic dishes, by far my favorite in a very long time. *Owners, can you come to Port Jefferson? ”
“ This restaurant continues to rule! I've been frequently going since its early days and boy oh boy! The flavors, the drinks... yum-yum! I haven't seen the owner in a minute but that's likely 'cuz he is overseeing some of his other locations. I mention it because he is a great guy and very accommodating. He wants to make sure you are enjoying yourself and while, like I said, I have not seen him in recent times I've been there, the folks that are there are very nice and predicate his attention to detail. They have a very festive environment and a great Latin color theme that makes you feel like somewhere in the planet it must be Cinco de Mayo (LOL). At any rate, certainly give them a try if you haven't already. You won't regret it. ”
“ Came here for LI restaurant week on a Friday night for dinner. Cute little Mexican place packed with tons of color and with a smell of mezcal right as you walk in. The place is on the smaller side so I would recommend a reservation especially for a bigger party. Music was a bit loud in my opinion and made it a little hard to converse and even hear the wait staff. Otherwise service was good. All tables are served with complimentary chips and salsa. I started with the chicken buñuelos, which was alright, good mole sauce but could have been a bit warmer. For the main, I got the three taco sampler, which I appreciated being able to choose any of the three from their diverse menu. I went with the chorizo, birria, and carnitas. Birria was far and away the best, with the chorizo surprisingly being my least favorite, was a bit dry in my opinion. The two best parts of the meal were the dessert and cocktails though. To drink I had the Paloma Aventurera (with tequila) which was tart and refreshing with a delicious poblano salt rim that came in a very cute vase like cup. And for dessert we got the tres leches and the coffee flan, both of which were exceptional, but I will say the cake was a little denser than typical so a purist might have some qualms. Although I enjoyed the meal, without the deal for restaurant week, prices seem a little on the high side for what you get, and I'd be a little reluctant to come back too frequently. But, I would like to try more of their menu still. Everything was "good" but didn't quite get all the way to "great". Parking can be a little crazy around patchogue. You can take your chances parking on the street, but I'd seek out one of the nearby municipal lots and walking a block or two to ease your troubled mind. ”
